Please don’t send recordings of your child. We never need audio to help you.

Questions

How are turns counted?

While a session is running, Little Turns listens on your iPhone for voices. When an adult speaks and the child makes a sound within 5 seconds, or the other way round, that counts as one turn. Coos, babbles and single words all count, not just sentences. Three or more turns in a row make a chain.

How do I record my voice again?

Open Settings in Little Turns, choose your name under Children and adults, and record your voice again. Do it somewhere quiet, on your own, so the voiceprint is only yours. Each adult at home can record their own.

The app can’t hear anything.

Little Turns needs the microphone. If you said no when it asked, tapping Start shows a screen with a button to the app’s page in iOS Settings; turn on Microphone there. A phone call or another app using the microphone pauses the session until you resume it.

Why does the count seem low?

Counts are estimates. Background noise, the TV or music, overlapping voices, very quiet speech, other children nearby, or an iPhone that is far away or in a pocket can all mean some turns are missed. Keep your iPhone face up, close to you both. The trend over days tells you more than any single number.

“Your words” doesn’t show.

Your words are counted with Apple’s on-device speech recognition. If it isn’t available for your language on your iPhone, Little Turns hides the word count instead of showing a wrong number. Turns are still counted.

Is audio recorded?

No. Sound is analysed in your iPhone’s memory a moment at a time and thrown away straight after. Audio is never saved and never sent anywhere, not to us and not to iCloud. Only the counts and their times are kept. iOS shows its microphone indicator whenever a session is listening.

We got a new iPhone.

Your sessions live on the iPhone and travel inside its iCloud or computer backup. Restore the backup on the new iPhone and they come along. Your subscription comes back with Restore Purchases in the app.

How do I cancel or change the subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Little Turns. To avoid being charged after the free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel the subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I delete my data?

In Little Turns, open Settings and tap Delete all data. This removes every session, profile and voiceprint the app has stored on your iPhone. Your subscription is not affected. A copy may remain inside an iCloud Backup of your iPhone until that backup is replaced.

I’m worried about how my child is talking.

Little Turns is a coaching tool, not a medical or diagnostic device, and it can’t tell you whether your child needs support. Your pediatrician or a speech-language pathologist can. You can ask at any age, and you don’t need the app’s numbers to do it.
