Little Turns Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-11-01
Last updated: 2026-10-23
Little Turns is an iPhone app that counts back-and-forth conversational turns between you and your child, on the device, while you talk. This policy explains what the app does with information, in plain language. The short version: the app does not collect your data. Audio never leaves your iPhone, is never recorded, and is never sent to us or to anyone else.
1. Who we are
The app is published by:
Rabbit Soft Szymon Krolikiewicz
(sole trader registered in Poland, European Union)
Email: hello@littleturns.app
Website: https://littleturns.app
We are the data controller for the limited information described in this policy. Where this policy says "we", "us" or "Little Turns", it means Rabbit Soft Szymon Krolikiewicz.
2. The one-paragraph summary
- The app listens through the microphone only during a session you start and ends yourself.
- Audio is processed in memory on your iPhone to detect speech, decide who is speaking, and count words and turns. The audio is discarded immediately. It is never written to storage, never recorded, and never transmitted.
- The app does not transcribe what is said. It counts words on the adult side only, and discards even that count's underlying text immediately. It never produces a transcript of your child.
- The only things the app keeps are session results: dates, times, durations, turn counts, word counts and your settings. These are stored on your iPhone only. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud, they are part of that backup, like any other app's data, and we cannot access it.
- We have no servers that receive your data. We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party SDKs.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
3. What the app processes on your device
3.1 Microphone audio
When you start a session, the app captures audio from the microphone and processes it in real time to:
- detect when someone is speaking (voice activity detection);
- estimate whether the speaker is the enrolled adult, a child, or another adult (speaker classification);
- count spoken words on adult segments to show you a rough words-per-session figure;
- count conversational turns.
All of this happens on the device, in memory. Audio is not saved to a file, not cached, not uploaded, and not shared with any service. When a session ends, or if the app is interrupted, the audio buffer is released. There is no "recording" feature and no way to play anything back, because nothing is kept.
The app does not keep any text of what was said. Word counting uses Apple's on-device speech framework to count words and then discards the words. The app never shows, stores or sends a transcript.
3.2 Voice enrollment
The app asks the adult to say a short greeting once (about three seconds) so it can tell your voice apart from your child's during a session. From that sample the app computes a small numeric "voice fingerprint" (a vector of numbers) and stores only that vector on your device. The audio of the enrollment sample is discarded immediately. The vector cannot be turned back into audio or speech. You can delete it at any time in Settings, which also resets enrollment. The app never asks a child to enroll and never creates a fingerprint of a child's voice.
3.3 Session results
For each session the app stores:
- start time, end time and duration;
- number of turns, longest chain of turns, and an approximate adult word count;
- the session's goal and whether it was reached;
- an optional tag or note you type yourself.
The app also stores your settings, such as the daily goal, reminders, enrollment vector and appearance choices.
Session results are not audio and contain no words that were spoken. They are stored in the app's local database on your iPhone.
4. iCloud Backup
Little Turns does not sync anything to iCloud and has no iCloud account of its own. If you use iCloud Backup for your iPhone, the app's local database is included in that backup together with the rest of your iPhone's data, and it is restored when you restore the backup. That backup is encrypted by Apple and only accessible through your Apple Account. We do not have a server account, key or any other way to read it. Apple's handling of iCloud Backup is described in Apple's privacy policy at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
You can exclude Little Turns from iCloud Backup in iPhone Settings. You can delete all your Little Turns data from the app's Settings screen, which removes it from the device; the next backup then no longer contains it.
5. Information we do not collect
To be explicit, Little Turns does not collect, store or transmit:
- audio recordings or audio samples;
- transcripts, text, or any content of your or your child's speech;
- names, email addresses, contact lists, photos or location;
- identifiers such as device IDs, advertising IDs or IP addresses;
- usage analytics, behavioural data or telemetry;
- data from any other app or website.
We do not use advertising, tracking, analytics SDKs, or any third-party software development kits that send data to other companies. The app makes no network requests of its own. The only network traffic is Apple's: App Store purchases, and crash reports if you chose to share them with developers. Reminders are scheduled locally by the app.
The App Store privacy label for Little Turns is "Data Not Collected".
6. Purchases
Little Turns is sold as a subscription through the Apple App Store, with a free trial. Apple processes the purchase, holds your payment information and manages billing, refunds and cancellations. We receive only anonymous subscription status from Apple (for example, "this device has an active subscription"), which the app uses to unlock features. We do not receive your name, address, email or payment details through a purchase. Apple's terms and privacy policy apply to the transaction.
Family Sharing is supported. If you share your subscription with family members, Apple manages that sharing. We do not learn who is in your family group.
7. Notifications
The app can send local notifications, for example a daily reminder you set, a notice that your free trial ends tomorrow, or a notice that a session was ended automatically. These notifications are created on the device by the app. We do not use push notification servers and cannot send you messages remotely.
8. Crash reports
If you have opted in to sharing crash and usage data with app developers in iPhone Settings (Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers), Apple may send us anonymised crash logs for Little Turns. These logs contain technical information about the crash (such as the app version and the point in the code where it failed) and never contain audio, session content, or anything that identifies you. This is controlled entirely by your iPhone settings and is off unless you have turned it on. We use crash logs only to fix bugs.
9. Children
Little Turns is made for parents and caregivers and is used around children. It is not directed to children and is not intended to be operated by them. The adult using the app is the account holder.
We take children's privacy seriously:
- No voice data of any person, child or adult, is collected or stored. Audio is processed in memory on the device and discarded immediately.
- No transcript or content of a child's speech is ever created, kept or sent.
- No voice fingerprint of a child is created. Enrollment is for the adult only.
- No personal information about a child is requested. The app does not ask for a child's name, age, photo or anything else. Session results are counts and times only.
- No advertising, tracking or analytics of any kind.
Because no personal information about children is collected by us, we do not knowingly hold any personal information about a child. If you believe we have received any, contact hello@littleturns.app and we will delete it.
It is your responsibility as the adult user to decide whether using the app in a given situation is appropriate, and, where other adults or children are present, to tell them that the app is counting turns. See also the Terms of Use.
10. Legal basis (GDPR / RODO)
For users in the European Union, the United Kingdom and other places with similar laws:
- The processing of audio and session data on your device is carried out by the app on your iPhone, under your control. We do not receive it, so we do not process it as a controller.
- The limited processing that reaches us (an email you send us, anonymised crash logs if you opted in, anonymous subscription status from Apple) is based on our legitimate interest in providing and supporting the app and fixing defects (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), and, for support emails, on your request (Article 6(1)(b)).
- iCloud Backup is a service provided by Apple to you under Apple's terms. Apple acts on your behalf. We are not a party to that processing.
We do not make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not profile users.
11. Your rights
Under GDPR, RODO (the Polish implementation of GDPR) and similar laws you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, uodo.gov.pl).
In practice, because your Little Turns data lives on your device:
- Access and portability: everything the app holds is visible in the app's History and Settings screens. The app's Export function in Settings produces a CSV file of your session results that you own.
- Deletion: Settings > Delete all data removes all session results, settings and the enrollment vector from your device. Deleting the app also removes its data. A copy may remain inside an iCloud Backup of your iPhone until that backup is replaced or deleted in iPhone Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Storage.
- Anything we hold (such as a support email thread): write to hello@littleturns.app and we will respond within 30 days.
12. Data retention
Data on your device is retained until you delete it; a copy inside an iCloud Backup of your iPhone follows that backup's own lifetime. Support emails are kept for up to 24 months after the last message so we can follow up, then deleted. Anonymised crash logs are retained by Apple according to Apple's policy and by us for up to 12 months.
13. Security
Audio never leaves the device, which removes the largest risk. Session data on the device is protected by iOS data protection and your device passcode. If it is part of an iCloud Backup, Apple encrypts that backup in transit and at rest. The app contains no third-party code that could exfiltrate data, and each release is checked for forbidden APIs (audio file writing, speech transcription storage, network calls) before submission.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security issue affecting Little Turns we will fix it and, where the law requires, inform affected users and authorities.
14. International transfers
We do not transfer your personal data internationally because we do not receive it. An iCloud Backup of your iPhone is handled by Apple under Apple's terms, which may involve Apple's data centres in various regions. Support emails are stored by our email provider in the European Union.
15. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for changes that matter, show a notice in the app before they take effect. The current version is always available at https://littleturns.app/privacy and inside the app under Settings > Privacy.
